Wow! Just Wow!
We attended a function at Mackays to open the Mey Games 2019, the staff were superb and very attentive, the food (Buffet) was second to none, beautifully presented and fresh. Great choice of beers and whiskies, and very reasonably priced for a hotel, what more could we ask for? The Manager introduced himself and nothing was too much trouble – we’re looking forward to attending again next year.
Back again!
Back to Wick and Mackays Hotel for a couple of nights. And not disappointed, as before, a lovely friendly welcome from the proprietor and given the room above the shortest street in the world (Ebeneezer Place, see Guinness Book of Records). Room splendid, food great, beer excellent, wine ditto, pleasant and helpful. Will be back again soon, a real home from home. Thanks to the Lamont family!
Wednesday night in Wick
I stayed at the Mackays Hotel,and the steak was amazing done to perfection. The owner took the time to chat and josie the server was lovely, very helpful and gave her own recommendations on the menu. My second time in wick and will definitely stay and eat at the Mackays Hotel again. Room 25 is very nice and comfortable. Really nice hotel 4 stars in my mind
Great meal!
Great meal, great whisky knowledge, great hosts – our guests loved it.. 2 coach loads at the same time, and unexpected, they managed in a short timeframe to get the meals for both lots quickly, and everyone loved their meal
Great hotel, food and staff
We stayed here as part of our NC500 tour. A very nice hotel with rooms obviously quite recently redecorated. A very large bed, and a decent sized bathroom to boot. The food was lovely too and even their Covid one way system wasn’t too much of a problem. They have a couple of car chargers in their off street car park which are free to use, just ask at reception
Family visit and celebrations
Excellent hospitality and food which we all savoured.
Very kindly on request the hotel owners arranged a special cake and a helium balloon for my husband a milestone birthday And helped us surprise him ! Would highly recommend and come again.
Dining Experience
We had booked this for the first of a two night stay in Wick. The food was so good we reserved a table for the following evening. The staff were excellent, one member of the team I think called Craig went above and beyond on both evenings to make our meal an experience. Highly recommend
Great place to stay with top quality Bistro
Very comfortable hotel in Wick. The bistro is exceptionally good quality for dinner with local produce. Rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is excellent . Strongly recommended. And to top it all off , the hotel is on the “shortest street” in the world!!!
Fantastic and welcoming, as always!
Whenever we are up here, there’s only one hotel that we stay in! Murray, and his team, always make every guest feel so at home. The rooms are cosy, hotel well situated, by the river, and the restaurant and bar are fab. Excellent food and a great selection of drinks. Even with the covid restrictions, our stay was still lovely and we will definitely be back!
Welcome break
We had a much needed break for 4 nights last week at Mackays in Wick The decent sized apartment was perfect for us and our two dogs and it was warm, safe and an excellent base for exploring Caithness. The Hotel is very well organised with regard to Covid restrictions, but this does not spoil the warm and friendly atmosphere and the owners are superb hosts. Breakfast is really tasty and served efficiently and the food in the restaurant is impressive, best polished off with a local dram from the bar
If you’re doing the NC500 drive and looking to say in Wick - this is the place
On a 14-day NC500 trip staying in 10 different hotels, this one stood out food wise as the best, including over some more expensive accommodation. We had a DBB rate. Usually hotels only provide a table d’hote menu if dinner is included but McKays allowed us full range of the menu. Our dinner was perfect even without a glass of wine to go with our steaks due to covid regs in Scotland. The breakfast was also the best on our trip. Top marks to the kitchen staff. I gather the hotel is family run over a couple of generations and it shows. Friendly, attentive staff at reception and restaurant. Warm and welcoming.
17 night stay in Wick for work
Really enjoyed my stay at Mackays Hotel, all the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Quality of food and service great with a good selection to choose from Room was a decent size and modern. Will be back again during my next visit
