One of Scotland's secret beaches
Peedie Sands near Dunnet Head
Peedie Sands is a small, remote, secluded beach in the far north of Scotland. Just beyond Dunnet Bay and close to Dunnet Head, the most northerly point on mainland Britain. Few people are aware of this beach, and there is a bit of a clamber over rocks to get to it. But once there, you may find you have the place to yourself. Well, apart from the local wildlife that is! On a sunny day, when the tide is out, you might feel like you’re on a desert island.
We had booked this for the first of a two night stay in Wick. The food was so good we reserved a table for the following evening. The staff were excellent, one member of the team I think called Craig went above and beyond on both evenings to make our meal an experience. Highly recommend
Scottish wildlife
The Dunnet coastline is home to a wide variety of seabirds and wildlife. From puffins, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and other seabirds, to dolphins, whales and porpoises. Bring your binoculars for a closer look!

Mary Ann's Cottage
When returning to the car park at Dwarwick Pier, you could make a visit to the nearby Mary Ann’s Cottage. This traditional crofter’s cottage, built in 1850, was the home of Mary Ann Calder, the third generation to live there. After she moved out aged 93, the cottage opened to the public as a museum. This is a very interesting insight into traditional life in Caithness. Open from May to September each year.
